The Heights Primary is a new, mainstream primary school for the Caversham Heights / Mapledurham area. The school was established as a Free School with funding from the Department for Education. ItĀ opened in September 2014 with the full support of Reading Borough Council which was instrumental in its creation as a long term solution to the shortage of primary school places in Caversham. The Heights was created with the express aim of providing the community of Caversham Heights with a much needed new Primary School after years of children commuting from Caversham Heights in the west to one of the eight existing schools in the east.

It is a conventional school, teaching the national curriculum with qualified teachers. It opened with two Reception classes and one Year 1 and is growing organically, accepting two new reception classes of 25 children per class every year, before reaching its full capacity of 350 children across reception to Year 6 in 2020. The school’s admissions are managed by Reading Borough Council and its policies compliment the other schools in Caversham.

The school now has 167 pupils, rising to 220 in September 2017. This will take it to its full capacity on its temporary site of 0.4 acres on Gosbrook Road, 1/2 mile outside the edge of the school’s catchment area, and to the east of Caversham.
